On The Red Queen

Ever wondered why we have sex? There are after all many organisms that replicate themselves through A sexual means. Sometimes that seems a lot less messy and energy intensive… The Red Queen was one of several books mentioned in The Game. It lays out a history, science, and hypothesis about the need for replication. And all the fun topics that go with it. One of these topics is one question we’re all curious about: How does sex and the desire to replicate drive us as human...

Been reading this for the last few days,

Must say… the start of the book does little to entice you in, its more like reading a report… but as you really get into the heart of the book, you do notice you have obtained knowledge that you didnt possess before… I think its interesting. At the same time, if you want to read something that will help with your game, i dont feel this is it… I think this just gives you a basis around evolution and why animals (and were animals too) have sex… Mostly to keep up with the ever evolving parasites..

Not an entertaining read, more of a Biological text book. Saying that, i would reccomend it as its always useful, specially when a feminist attacks you with the line “Women don’t need men”… Gives you a well educated come back. :)

    Thanks for the reccomendation Neil.

    One last thing,

I think there should almost be an order in which you read these books… Like the Red Queen first then NLP book and pursasion book etc etc… and i would honestly have the game last because its the one you want to keep fresh in your head and to have a large knowledge base in which to work with… Its also the most entertaining…

Amazing how I see this blog more like as guideline for life and not just articles about seduction, survival… It answers to the question: How to live a human (centered) life under any circunstances and any society and system.
Thanks Neil (and the other writers) for the articles.

Out of curiosity is there anything in there about why some of us would chose to have sex, with the intention of never having children?

    • Tom says:

I do not recall that question being answered in the book. However, look at your question another way. Your brain has been wired for thousands of years to think that having sex brings about children, the same goes for women. The invention of birth control is so new based on the evolutionary timeline that our brains have not evolved to encapsulate this variable. I believe it was Mystery that stated that the reason women experience last minute resistance (LMR) is because they are wired to think that if they get pregnant, and without a strong man/alpha-male around afterwards to support her and the child that she will suffer; again this is her brain not having evolved to include the evolutionary new invention of birth control.

    Hey,

I have a bit of a dilemma, a question which i can’t seem to find an answer… Its about this book.

So in chapter 5, Ridley talks about how a Peacock attracts a mate through demenstrating beauty within its tail feathers.. However it goes on to explain that this beauty has a sublminal message to the female, which could possibly mean that the male with the most flawless tail and best demonstration of beauty is least prone to disease along with many other advantages of maintaining this beauty.

I understand that this doesnt correlate 100% to the human species but i personaly believe there is correlation there.

So my question is, Demonstrating that you can maintain and support beauty along with other attributes a female searches for, why is it that within out culture, females can sometimes be drawn to demonstrations that are quite the opposite to being the healthiest, most productive/supportive alpha male? For example, adolescent teens are drawn to the boys who rebel the most, take up smoking and drinking. As we get further, its also shown that more mature women are even still drawn to men who show aging maturity, Grey hair, bald heads and frown lines etc. Then again we see that housewifes can be drawn to Joe Bloggs who is on the dole whilst their productive husband is at work. There are more examples…

So why do you think it is that in human culture and nature, we sometimes break/bend the rules of attraction to our mate by choosing a mate that doesn’t always demonstrate a perfect specimen from which to breed their children.

Thank you for reading, i know its long winded… but its something that is puzzling me.

    Cheers

    Rob

      @Rob:
I’ll do my best to answer your question and just to have you I’m no expert in this field. This is my opinion based on reading various materials, inquiring about these questions with others and experimenting.

Rebellion: While the lifestyle that your state (e.g. binge drinking, smoking, etc.) is unhealthy, what it does demonstrate is a sense of adventure, danger and willingness to step outside the social construct. This being said, I have not seen a person that simply drinks/smokes to get the woman; there is always something else that she is attracted to. It could be the tribe that he belongs to (the rocker crowd, the power crowd, etc.). Furthermore, the person is typically a leader of men in some fashion, therefore look outside of the negative aspects and see what other positive traits the person has. Combine those positive traits with the adventure, thrill seeking, etc. traits and you’ve flipped a lot of switches in that woman’s mind.

Beauty: A majority of women that I have discussed this with, they could care less about grey hair, balding, etc. It’s the way the man is groomed and carries himself. Think about it, if you saw a man that was bald, that slouched, talked to the ground rather than looking into the person’s eyes and just was mediocre in his social skills then what woman would be attracted to that? The flip side is a man that is balding, grey hair, etc. that owns it, grooms well and doesn’t let those attributes impact the person that he is on the inside. This is true self-assuredness. This is attractive.

Bloggs: Again, in my experience this is more about sexual fantasies than anything else. I wear a suit and tie to work daily and my lovers tend to like this. However, I always attempt to understand what their fantasies are. This said, if they have a fantasy of a man, wearing a tool belt, white sweat-soaked t-shirt, jeans and boots – well that’s not what I wear. Therefore, when that repair man comes over, she may just take advantage of the situation. It is my goal to understand those fantasies and to actualize them for the women in my life. As an example, come home one day (or stay home one day) and dress as the construction worker coming home from work. Great way to give her that experience, open up other doors of fantasy and honestly a superb way to strengthen your relationship.
