Barbra Streisand once made an album in which she used the sounds of blenders, washing machines, and coffee pots as musical instruments.

Actually, the reason is because early in my magazine writing days, I wrote a piece on noise as a musical instrument, and included the album Barbra Streisand and Other Musical Instruments as an example of avant-garde music from a surprising source.
