I remember seeing this trailer in a theater and thinking, “I must see this movie.” It became an obsession, and turned me on to the director Timur Bekmambetov, who has, unlike Borat, made the term Kazakhstan synonymous with cool.

And this movie, Night Watch, revolutionized modern Russian film-making, showed just what was possible with a four million dollar budget, and paved the way for Bekmambetov’s entry into Hollywood and directing Angelina Jolie films.

Fair warning: The trailer for Night Watch below, with music by M83 (the song is called “Unrecorded”), is actually slightly better than the movie itself.

His sequel Day Watch has a less compelling trailer, but the movie is actually better than Night Watch. Here is, without doubt, the best car parking scene ever filmed:
