Game of the Week: Plants vs. Zombies

Neil StraussThe Loop

Sometimes I worry that a post may be recommending the obvious.

And to those who know Plants vs. Zombies, it is.

However, if you own an iPad or iPhone or Xbox or a Nintendo DS or a Playstation or a computer—which should cover all of you—and you haven’t played this game yet, you owe it to yourself to get obsessed. It is best played though on something portable, like the iPad.

It is perhaps the most clever variant of a tower defense game, if not the most clever game app on the market.  It runs undead circles around Angry Birds.

In fact, the game is so ridiculous, its developer, Popcap, was ordered by Michael Jackson’s estate to remove their moonwalking zombies.

Personally, Plants vs. Zombies has singlehandedly made the purchase of the iPad worth it. Perhaps that is because in our addiction,  my girlfriend and I made it through every level, every minigame, and then every Achievement. In fact, we now call I the zPad. Hint: To find the Chinese Zombies, go to the Achievements screen and keep scrolling down until you hit the bottom.

And in case you need any further convincing, only a rare breed of game is unique and compelling enough to inspire THIS faithful of a live-action re-enactment (skip ahead to 2:30 to start watching):

Enjoy!
